STYLISHLY PERCHED ASTRIDE the North Tower of the Nile City complex in Cairo’s Boulaq district, Tamarai Restaurant & Bar opened earlier this year to cater for Egypt’s thin upper crust. Designed by renowned Egyptian architect Shahira Fahmy, Tamarai features an indoor bar and lounge and a spacious outdoor dining terrace that offers views of the Nile below. “It’s reminiscent of Beirut’s Sky Bar, which also sits atop a skyscraper,” says 40-year-old Cairo-based party planner Michael Mitchell. “Tamarai might even be a little cooler because it’s directly flanked by one side of the tower, giving the whole place a Gotham City-like ambience.” With fine French food and a DJ who frequently turns the terrace into one big dancefloor, Tamarai is hugely popular – manager Mohamed Reda advises making reservations at least three or four days in advance.
