The Ivory Club
Renowned as the best steakhouse in town and featuring a gateway made of two huge elephant tusks, the Ivory Club also offers a good range of Indian-inspired dishes. Taunusanlage 15, +49 (0)69 7706 7767, www.the-steak-house.de/ivory
Kontrast
William Morris famously said, “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” That’s also the motto of this furniture, lighting and accessories emporium.
I could spend hours browsing this amazing space, which features many exclusive pieces. Hanauer Landstraße 297, +49 (0)69 904 3930, www.kontrastmoebel.de
Walden
This city-centre café does a fabulous breakfast, and on a sunny day its pavement terrace is the perfect place for people-watching. It’s great for a lunchtime break as well, and draws a mixed crowd of hipsters and financial types.

British Book Shop
This bookshop, just around the corner from the Stock Exchange, has been thriving since 1957 even though not one book on its shelves is in German. It’s popular with the expat community, but plenty of Germans shop here too. Börsenstraße 17, +49 (0)69 280492,

Gucci
Goethestraße is Frankfurt’s answer to New York’s Fifth Avenue or Rome’s Via dei Condotti, with top design houses and jewellers jostling for attention along the tree-lined avenue. The Gucci store is especially beautiful inside – if you can get past the women ogling the latest rucksack-style bags in the shop window. Goethestraße 5, +49 (0)69 920 0890, www.gucci.com
