Saatchi set for Middle East art show

There’s no better test of whether your art is of the moment than whether it’s being picked up by London art-scene behemoth Charles Saatchi, famed for pushing the Young British Artists, which included Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin.
He opened his new gallery in London’s Chelsea with an overview of current Chinese art, and now the venue’s first show of 2009 is set to highlight contemporary Arabic art. “Art Unveiled: New Art from the Middle East,” which runs from 30 January to 6 May, should be an eye-opener for British audiences, starved of much art from the region, though may offer less for cognoscenti. The work of 20 artists from Beirut, Cairo and Tehran and elsewhere is featured, including Kader Attia, Diana Al-Hadid and Wafa Hourani
