You don’t have to marry Madonna to have her make you money

The banks are increasingly unreliable, the markets are in freefall and property’s a bust, so who do you trust with your money? How about Madonna? Marquee Capital, a niche asset management company which specialises in “alternative investments”, believes that the Kabbalah Queen represents one of the best chances for a solid return on savings.

To this end Marquee founder Chetan Trivedi and colleagues have collected more than 150 items of Madonna memorabilia including her 1985 Material Girl dress valued at US$38,000 and the US$18,000 wedding dress she wore in the 1996 film Evita. Trivedi believes such assets will soar in value in the future: “Nearly all traditional investments are falling in value, but the interest in stars like Madonna is undiminished and their value keeps increasing.”

To ensure the capital works to its fullest potential, Marquee’s Madonna collection – supplemented by pieces owned by fellow Madonna collector James Harknett – is going on display in London this month to fee-paying customers. Fans will be invited to contribute US$14.50 to the fund in exchange for the chance to view an array of more than 300 costumes, film props and photos, including the wedding gown worn on the Like A Virgin tour.

The exhibition runs from 21 February to 22 March and is at the Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, London E1. www.marqueecapital.com
