Supercar wars

Another major brand bids to unseat Porsche as the makers of supercars that top people’s wishlists. Audi released their fabulous R8 late last year and now Nissan have moved in on the market with the GT-R.

The car has been in the secret planning stage for two years and is due for release worldwide next spring, with a predicted price of about US$120,000. With a top speed of almost 320kmph, it is as fast as the quickest Ferrari, but half the price – and there is more.

High-tech gizmos include information on the G-forces pulling at tight corners and a system that tells the driver how the power is split between the front and rear axles.

On looks alone, the GT-R is a seductive temptation and is destined to bring the Nissan brand back to the fore with formidable force.

If you are planning to buy a supercar, it might just be worth hanging on for a year.
